Greece: Travellers' Tales from Greece
Travellers' Tales - Greece
Greece achieved its independence from the Ottoman Empire in 1829. During the second half of the 19th century and the first half of the 20th century, it gradually added neighboring islands and territories, most with Greek-speaking populations.

In World War II, Greece was first invaded by Italy (1940) and subsequently occupied by Germany (1941-44); fighting endured in a protracted civil war between royalist supporters of the king and communist rebels. Following the latter's defeat in 1949, Greece was able to join NATO in 1952.

Greece: Rhodes - Venturing into the Interior by Liz Canham
Greece
When I visited Rhodes with my husband some years ago, we stayed in the small seaside resort of Pefkos. After a few days of lazing around we decided that we'd better see something of the island so we hired a car for three days and set off on day one for Rhodes town. There was so much to see and write about Rhodes town that that will be the subject of a separate article, so I'll move swiftly on to day two.

Greece: Lardos - Watching the World Go By by Liz Canham
Greece
Staying in Pefkos on the island of Rhodes, mainly without transport, offered the opportunity for a bit of walking. One windy day which didn't seem too hot, we set off for Lardos, a village some 5 or 6 kilometres away.

Greece: Lindos by Boat by Liz Canham
Greece
When my husband and I holidayed in Rhodes years ago, we stayed in a small town on the Mediterranean (eastern) coast called Pefkos. Nice in itself but not startlingly beautiful architecturally. However, not far up the coast is the town of Lindos which we had passed by when we arrived on Rhodes.
